I can leave if need be.
I have applied and I'm sure I will get my dual citizenship. My mother was born in another country and through their application process I met the qualifications, ofcourse because of my mother. My children automatically get theirs as well, the wife would have to apply for a visa ( i think ).
As a citizen of finland, with a finnish passport I can go anywhere in the EU to work, live, etc. although i'd probably stay in finland if i went there. So when tshtf If i can afford it all of us can bail. Thing that would be a bummer is " guns ", they are quite socialist there. Not many rights. Who knows? What do you all think good thing or bad thing to do? |

I would be very wary of nations that are restrictve with gun laws....... the time is comiing when you will have to be the last line of defense for your loved ones. You need to have as many odds stacked in your favor a possible. If you wanted to recolate you would have to do it BEFORE the squeeze begins because WTSHFT nation after nation is going to shutting its doors. lest they risk overthrow for letting in massive amounts of refugees(always a highly unpopular move) Bottomline........ your best chance of survial is on the terrain you are most familair with and has the best gun laws. Prep accordingly. T |
Re: I can leave if need be.
Try buying a ticket to Finland once things go bad.

Life is so short. Go wherever you expect to have the most of it whenever you need to. I could think of many places that would be worse to go to than Finland. Don't let lines on a map confuse your life. In the end it is just different cultures and languages ... the people are pretty much the same (one head, two arms, etc.). Go wherever folks don't want to kill or enslave you and live well. The day may come that the US might not be that place. If so, use your ticket and never look back.

Re: I can leave if need be.
Finland is desperate for people as their birthrate is very low. It has one of the best economies in Europe and I believe the cradle to grave type welfare state.
The people are known for their dourness but at the same time I am willing to bet there is very little ghetto be it physical or cultural. It would likely be a grand adventure for you, although if you are leaving behind your extended family give it some hard thought, as there may come a time in your life where you want to care for your parents. |

"I'm glad out forefathers didn't pack up and head for mexico when the going got tough here 200 years ago." I take it that you are (1) Happy as Larry with how things are and therefore don't feel the need to tread a similar path to the founding fathers or (2) A keyboard warrior Maybe Poorboy isn't into the whole militia / extremist scene and just wants to look out for number one? |

Choosing to live your life with "options" is a very powerful paradigm.

Re: I can leave if need be.
Having the option to legally reside in another country at will to me sounds like a huge benefit. However in a SHTF scenario it may be extremely difficult to get on an airplane and leave the US. Either way as many already stated, every extra option is a good option.

Finland may be a good choice, but only if you take it b/f tshtf.
Finland may not be kindly to guns, however, most people work hard and there is a small lower class. Finns seem to be similar in appearance, ability, personal expectations and have alot of tough self-sufficient pride (sisu) to "take care of themselves". IMO, there will not be alot of people feeling sorry for themselves when tshtf. I'd say that it is a decent choice in a scenario where total anarchy occurs for a week or two. And I'm Sirius |
Re: I can leave if need be.
Finland is probably one of the safest countries you can live in WTSHTF. Lot's of water and land. And very few barbarians live there. (little immigration)
The biggest downsides are taxes, the welfare state, anti-gun laws and the introvert people (but polite & honest). |
